Gig-alicious

I feel like I've gone back in time a few years when I used to be a gig whore - I'd go see bands play 2-3 times a week (minimum) on average. Of course, back then I used to have to write gig reviews and CD reviews too, which I found fun for a long time, but I was really glad to take a long break from all that.

But seeing Jason Mraz twice this week and then tonight going to see my friend Aldo's band, Anthem, it made me realise how much I miss gigging. Sydney has an awesome live music scene and I really need to get back out there and become a bit of a gig whore once again ;-)

I took some pics of the Anthem gig at the Excelsior Hotel, so I'll be cropping those along wth the Mraz photos in the coming week. I don't have Photoshop or Paintshop on my home computer, so for me it's all about sepia-ing the hell out of photos in Picassa ;-)

Must go to bed. Have long Samba rehearsal tomorrow!

Still Mrazmerized...;-)

(Here's one pic from tonight.) Just got home from my second Jason Mraz gig and wow it was such a different vibe. This was a much more intimate show because last night was packed (sold out!) and tonight it was such a smaller crowd. I think Jason is a lot quieter with a smaller audience. The singing isn't quieter, the singing and music are always just as awesome, but you know, no one was throwing their underwear on stage tonight or asking for foursomes, so he didn't need to be quite as cheeky tonight. ;-)

Hopefully this weekend I will post a more 'proper' review of the gigs, along with more piccies!

I just finished watching all 18 short videos I took tonight! The video quality of my vids might be crap, but I am impressed by the sound, considering. Mraz sounds magnificent, so that's what matters. :-D

I wish I could fly to Perth tomorrow to see the next show! If only!!!

I always want to get out my guitar and start working on unfinished songs after a fantastic gig, so you can imagine how I feel after seeing two wonderful gigs back to back. Maybe I'll work on some songs this weekend...watch out, neighbours, the Shower Singer returns! :-D

Mraz is beautiful...

I'm totally spent so I won't write my novella right now, but let's just say that my future hubby is still adorable, still hilarious, still extremely entertaining. And he sure sings real purty too! :-)

I took 3 short videos of portions of "Absolutely Zero", "The Remedy", "Please Don't Tell Her", and a pretty song I am ashamed I do not know. (Bad, Lori, BAD! ;-)

All the videos are currently way too big to make available here, but I'll try to get them down to a reasonable size. If not, then people I deem as special can email me and I might send them to you. ;-)

The hilarious banter and "tricks" were pretty good tonight - hopefully I will still remember them tomorrow....when I'm off to Mraz, part 2!!!

I can't believe I'm so lucky to be able to do this all again tomorrow! YIPPPPEEEE! Tonight was so much fun, loved it!!!

But I realised on the drive home that Mraz simply has too many songs now, so you're never going to get EVERY song you want to hear in any given show. Maybe tomorrow I'll get a couple that I missed tonight.

For the record, two people threw their underwear on stage tonight, but I was NOT one of them. :-D

Working it...

I know I haven't been blogging much for a while now, so, for those of you who may not know otherwise, I have failed to mention two funny things.

Funny thing #1: I have joined a gym. No, seriously.
Funny thing #2: In order to motivate (i.e. 'scare') myself into joining a gym, I signed up for a samba performance class. My fellow classmates and I will be perfoming on stage in Sydney, in front of 600+ people, while wearing authentic Brazilian Carnival costumes. Feather headdresses and all! Yes, that's right, people. I had to freak myself out by the idea of jiggling around in a tiny little costume in front of 600 people in order to get my ass to a gym.

Hey, who says scare tactics don't work? ;-)

Basically, I sit on my ass all day in front of a computer, and I don't sleep very soundly and I'm lacking in energy, so regular cardio should help with all that. I'm not expecting a miracle before our Samba show, but I would like to try to get a bit of tone by then. I'm happy with what I got, but yes, more tone would be fantabulous! :-D

I went to the gym with Jason tonight (my friend Jason, not Jason Mraz, sorry to disappoint! ;-) I got on a bike for a while (I was impressed I could do anything after my 1 hour Circuit class last night!) and then Jason convinced me to go upstairs for some weights. It turns out he is a bit of a Gym Nazi - he's tough, but good! :-D Thanks for your help tonight, Rammstein! :-D I may be cursing you tomorrow when I can't get out of bed though!!! :p

After gymming we watched last week's episode of 24 that we had both missed. How the hell is 24 still so damn good???? There's always some gigantic crisis, people lie, people die, Jack risks his life, Jack saves the day. It's always the same thing over and over, every season, but it is ALWAYS awesome. Always gripping. I'm always both worried about Jack and impressed by Jack. I adore some chracters, I want to smack others. I'm always shocked by something. Kudos to the show's writers for making it so damn interesting and addictive season after season!

Okay, I need to get my beauty sleep now. Can't let my future husband see me looking like crap tomorrow night! WOO-HOO!

Smooches, people! :-D

Mrazturbation is definitely the answer...

I entered another Jason Mraz contest and I won! :-D This time the competition required sharing your favourite word and explaining why it was your favourite word. Of course I said my favourite word was "Mrazturbation". I can't remember my exact 25-words-or-less explanation for this fantastic word, but it was something to the effect of: "This is my favourite word because it combines my two favourite things - Mraz and Masturbation! Both are fun, healthy, and highly recommended!" Or something like that. I have no idea. I wish I'd saved my entry now.

Anyway, the prize for this comp was 2 free tix to a Sydney Jason Mraz gig. I'd assumed it was for the Thursday night gig as I knew Wednesday's show was sold out. I got a phone call today saying I'd won the tix, but that they were for Wednesday's show. I was excited, yet slightly disappointed as I have already bought tix for Wednesday's show. I admit it, I was feeling selfish. I asked the lovely lady who called me about the contest if I could pretty please possibly exchange my Wed night tix for Thurs night tix so I could see my beloved Jason Mraz two nights in a row. She said this wasn't possible. :-(

Oh well, I figured I would just have to find two pals to give the free tix too as none of my friends here know of Jason (my fault, I know) except for Gavin, and he was already going with me on Wed. I was determined to convert new friends to the Book of Mraz. After all, I made Gavin go with me to a Mraz gig a couple years ago without him ever hearing a single note of Mrazness and he got hooked. I felt confident I could convert more unsuspecting souls to Mrazism. After all, this is my future hubby we're talking about, and my friends will have to love him. :-D

Then after asking a couple friends (who, in the end, thankfully could not come!) I got another call from the competition lady, who said she had made a mistake and that it turns out I DID actually win tix for Thursday, not Wednesday.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so so so so so so so happy. So I DO get to see Mr. Mraz TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW!

It's such a good thing I hadn't found anyone who could come yet because I would have felt really bad when I had to tell them - SORRY, I LIED, YOU CAN'T COME! ;-)

Everyone keeps asking me if I'm going to bring my "Mrazturbation Down Under" sign to the show. Honestly, I'd love to, but I'm worried that I wouldn't even be allowed to take it into the venue and that some mean security guard would take my baby away from me. Maybe I should call ahead and ask...hmmmm...but yes, I would love to wave the sign in front of Jason and then I could throw it on stage with my bra or something. (I am kidding, I am not actually that psychotic. No, really...)

Heh - I just got an email from my Mum - she wrote:

I saw your blogspot. Only my daughter could think of something like that. Or carry a sign for pregnant lesbians.

Congratulations on winning the contest!

Love,

Mum

I'll have to ask my parents which sign they are more proud of me for, the "Mrazturbation Down Under" one or The Pregnant Lesbians one. Of course, me ending up on National Nine News probably made the latter EXTRA exciting for Mum + Pops!

Hugs + kisses,
Lori 'B-fly' Mraz :-D
