Queen of the Band

That random photo (How incognito am I? But I'm in a butterfly shirt, so you know it's me!) was taken on a cliffwalk from Bondi to Coogee. We were walking along and someone had left a big cooler with an orphan bunny rabbit sitting on it. Since the rabbit and I were wearing matching jean skirts, I thought it only fair we take a picture to celebrate the moment. The rabbit gave me a hippie vibe, hence my pathetic peace sign.

Thanks to the lovely Fidelma for the title for today's blog. Can't go to see Queen of the Damned next week because I've got class, but I am going to try to continue to live up to my title of Queen of the Band by showing support for our talented locals. Speaking of talented locals, I highly recommend going to see ESN at Vic on the Park tomorrow night, with The Devoted Few and Kindling.

HUGE congrats to Rachel for getting into the London School of Economics! That's awesome. I'm very proud of you, Mrs. Humperbumper aka Schmoopie :)

My 'plan' is going well...it's going according to plan. :) Basically, I made a decision on how I was going to handle an issue with someone and I'm sticking to it. Almost caved on Tuesday but I snapped back into sanity and am relieved to say it's all back on track. Except for Tuesday, it's a hell of a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. It's all about getting control over the situation...I'd had it before, then it was up in the air for a while, now I've got it back again and I can concentrate on far more important things. After all, it's all those little insignificant stupid things that we spend the most time worrying about and it leaves us with no energy/time to concentrate on what's really important....enough of that!

All the V in the World Couldn't Save Me Now

I'm just that tired. And I have Chaos class tonight. Any type of class/lecture would be non-conducive to me staying awake tonight....oy. More on my V revelations later...
----
The good news is that I had steak and mashed potatoes today for lunch! And I survived - no problem. I'm going to try to eat red-meat twice a month now so I never have to experience that lovely 5am Sunday morning rude awakening ever again! :)

p.s. The first pic is of Shay, Kristen, and me taken on the day Shay and Co. took pity on us Yanks and started teaching us the rules of Cricket. Sal got us Aussified and took the pic - thanks Sal! And thanks to Shay for being so patient :) And thanks to Andy and Chad for not laughing too much at us ;) The 2nd pic is of Jorge and I at Mardi Gras. To think we saw our first Mardi Gras parade in Sydney 4 years ago!

Can't write now...off to see some cool bands play with Craig at Bar Broadway and then the Metro...yay!

11.56pm
Okay, I'm back. BIG thanks to Craig for the invite to the FMR shindig at Bar Broadway this evening. We were greated with polaroids as name-tags, complete with glowsticks. Let me tell you, putting that glowstick in my purse was a great idea - I could find everything! :) We saw Anelle (sp?), Motor Ace, gEORGE...all very cool, especially gEORGE. Just got their CD on the weekend, it's excellent. Oh to be able to sing even 1/100th as well as Katie or Tyrone Noonan....damn they can belt it out! Oh, and I felt bad for all the waiters serving the food - they looked insulted when people refused every now and then, as if they'd made it themselves. I wonder if they got paid by the number of items served? In any case, I can vouch for the spring rolls and the hot dogs. Two thumbs up. Thanks to the Machine Gun Fellatio boys for a fun chat - see you at Manning Bar! ;)

After Bar Broadway, we headed to Metro to see the last two hours of Spearhead. They were great fun. I got some good dancing in. Big thanks to the dude who managed to spill beer all over my feet and pants...cause my feet were gettiing kinda hot and I just needed a cool down! (Kidding). Note to people who bring big-ass scratchy back-packs to gigs and wear them AND insist on dancing and moving around a lot. Guess what? Every time you feel me, I feel your bag 100x more. I tried to be nice and stick out my elbow a bit to emphasise my presence, but when that didn't work, I kept violently jabbing this dude's bag with my elbow. He kept giving me dirty looks, as if I was getting in the way of his amazing dance moves. Puh-lease. Respect the space of those around you, homeboy! I was just standing there, not moving or dancing (Cause there was no room), minding my own business, but your bastard bag kept knocking me in the arm/head. I ended up moving to the back so I could see and dance and not bother those around me. Gig etiquette! :) Don't worry, I'm not really whinging...I'm laughing too hard to whinge...though I do believe in gig etiquette, yessiree! Michael Franti should sing a song about that...then the people would listen!

Dammit, still haven't written my Yagoona story. Grrr! Anyhoo, soon, soon...tonight I had another long and hilarious conversation with Rammstein. You should really become a stand-up comedian, Rammstein, I am telling you the truth! :) Viva la velvet!

The infamous Mardi Gras photo. Don't try to click on it, that's as big as you're gonna get it, at least from me. :) As usual, Kristen looks sexy and Lori looks about 12. :) Okay, crazy crazy week. Doubt I'll even begin to catch up here...let's re-cap...Monday night was Mowzez's b-day get together, Tuesday I saw Felicity at the Hopetoun with Craig, Wednesday I went with Chad to check out the Beautiful People and some extremely talented musos at L'otel. On Thursday I went to Jo and Steve's for a night of relaxation. Wine, yummy greek salad, breads and dips, jacuzzi, pool, and sauna action. (Thanks so much for your hospitality, guys, you are the best!) Friday I did Tapas with Kristen in Glebe - yum! Saturday Kristen and I ate at Cinques, went to see Mulholland Drive, and then ate at Cinque's again! I had a New York cut steak (yum!) and parmasean mashed potatoes (double yum!) I was excited because I hadn't had red meat since before Valentine's day and I don't like to go too long without it. So we saw the movie and now I understand why Kristen spent hours on the internet trying to figure it out. It's that kind of a crazy movie. We discussed my guesses and Kristen shared her knowledge of the internet goss on the flick. We headed back to Cinques, got the same waitress who laughed at us - 'we're back!' and we got pumpkin bread with walnut butter. You could have rolled me home.

Went to bed early - around 1.30am- woo-hoo. I kept having nightmares. And around 5am I woke up from some nightmare - can't remember what - and I was whispering, 'oh my god, we're in trouble!' Then I realised that I felt nauseous. Really nauseous. You know that denial you get when you feel really ill but you try to convince yourself you're not going to be sick? So I tried being in denial for about 10 minutes, then I ran to the bathroom. I was sitting there going, 'No! I can't be sick!' I can't remember the last time I threw up. At least a year and a half, maybe 2 years ago? At least? I can't remember. Anyhoo, I puked about 10 times (aren't you guys glad you're reading this!) and then I took a shower cause I felt so nasty. In the shower, I realise...."Hmmm, I still feel really nauseous" and just hunched over for a half hour and proceeded to puke about 10 more times. Yuck. So I'm guessing it might have been the steak as I hadn't had anything else that was suspect and all I drank all night was coke and water. The steak was cooked well and tasted great, but maybe the red meat just killed me. Though it's only been a month since I last had meat. Last time I went several months without red meat, I felt ill after I had some ground beef, but I didn't actually get sick. I'll have to make an effor to eat it more often. Anyway, I'm fine now, just really tired from the whole thing, taking it easy on my tummy. I can't believe I just wrote about puking. Nasty. Sorry about that.

Anyhoo, I got to see Miss Angela this weekend - on her trip home to Sydney for the weekend. It was really good to see her, albeit briefly. I gave her the contact info of a couple Melbourne friends of mine - hopefully they can all go gigging soon!

Tonight, I made the pilgrimage to Yagoona (yes, that's PAST Bankstown, I can't believe it!) via train for Evelyn's birthday dinner. It's a story of all its own and unfortunately my computer is about to die again, so it'll have to wait untill tomorrow, if my computer is working. It took about 14 tries to get it started tonight...which is pretty good these days! Needless to say, Yagoona's finest came out to greet me when I arrived...details to come...

*note to myself, discuss the 'September 11th' book section I saw at the bookstore yesterday...disturbing..
